Homestead Bed and Breakfast is located on five acres of an original one-hundred-sixty acre homestead, begun in 1928. The old hay barn is still standing and used daily. A newer henhouse houses our laying hens as well as some we raise for meat. Ducks reside in the barn and frequently run free, providing a fair bit of entertainment. We hope to add more animals to our menagerie soon.birds on the lawn

Our home is mostly new construction; clean, comfortable, and welcoming. We invite you into our home, and make sure that you have your own private space for relaxation and comfort. The two guest rooms share a bathroom and a large sitting room upstairs. A television is available in the guest sitting room as well as wireless internet service. Special needs can usually be accommodated, whether it is a dietary accommodation, a therapeutic pillow, or something else particular to you. Just let us know ahead of time what we can do to make your stay more comfortable.

gardenOur large garden is a source of many delicious vegetables and berries. Southeast Alaska has a short but exuberant growing season and the garden becomes quite lush during July and August. We grow organically, adding only seaweed, animal manure, compost, and other natural ingredients to the soil; the chickens and ducks help with weed and insect control. We put many vegetables and berries away for the winter; some go in the freezer, some in jars, in the form of jams, juices, and pickles and the rest go in the cellar.

Our acreage consists of open meadow as well as spruce forest. Lupine, fireweed, shooting stars, iris, chocolate lilies, and many other wild flowers are sprinkled about. Many species of birds live here and we encourage them to come to our feeders. If you’re lucky, you may spot a moose or bear wandering through our yard.moose
